⚙-worker Folder
The ⚙-worker folder in readworks is an intelligent folder designed to help you attach documents more easily to the correct case. This increases both the efficiency of your project management and data organization, and integrates readworks into your familiar workflows – particularly when working with PDF files in the file system.
Below, you'll learn how to use this feature to, for example, speed up your research or continuously add documents to your cases without having to leave your work context.
Accessing the ⚙-worker Folder
Through the File System:
- Navigate in your file manager (Finder on macOS, Explorer on Windows) to the folder where your readworks project is stored. If you have not created any custom projects, the project can be found in the Documents folder. Example:
User/Documents/readworks/default-project
. - Open the project folder (
default-project
). Inside, you will find a folder named "⚙-worker".
- Navigate in your file manager (Finder on macOS, Explorer on Windows) to the folder where your readworks project is stored. If you have not created any custom projects, the project can be found in the Documents folder. Example:
Through the readworks.app:
- Open readworks.app.
- Click the “Project Folder” button in the main menu.
- The project folder will open directly in your operating system’s file manager, and you can see and open the ⚙-worker folder there.
Structure of the ⚙-worker Folder
The ⚙-worker folder mirrors the structure of your project cases. For each case, a subfolder with the same name is created. This structure helps you keep your files organized and easy to locate.
Using the ⚙-worker Folder
Adding Files:
- Place the files you want to add to a specific case into the corresponding subfolder within the ⚙-worker folder.
- Make sure to always add copies of the files, as they will be deleted after import.
Automatic Detection:
- Once a file is placed in the appropriate subfolder, it is automatically detected and imported by readworks.
- If readworks.app is open, this happens immediately. Otherwise, the file is imported the next time the application is started.
Easy Integration of Web Pages and Documents:
- If you are working on a webpage or document that needs to be added to a readworks case, print the webpage or document as a PDF (CTRL+P) and save it in the corresponding subfolder within the ⚙-worker folder.
- The file will be automatically imported the next time readworks is opened.
Seamless Integration:
- The import process begins seamlessly. Any existing searches are automatically performed on the new document, and matches are highlighted.
- This ensures that all relevant information is immediately accessible and organized without additional manual steps.
Important Notes
- File Management: Always place copies of your files in the ⚙-worker folder. Once a file is imported, it is deleted from the ⚙-worker folder to avoid duplicates and maintain order.
- No Duplicates: readworks automatically detects if files are identical in content, even if the file names differ. This prevents duplicates from being imported into cases and ensures that analysis data is not distorted.
Benefits of the ⚙-worker Folder
- Improved Organization: Mirroring your case structure in the ⚙-worker folder helps maintain a clear and organized project environment, making it intuitive to sort new documents.
- Efficiency: Automatic detection and import of files reduce manual work and speed up the process of filing documents into cases.
- Enhanced Workflow: Seamless integration into the readworks workflow with the help of PDF exports from external programs (such as web browsers, office software, etc.) ensures that all relevant information is captured and made easily accessible.
